A.)I am a very messy drawer so the vine charcoal is very handy! As I draw I try to keep in mind the simple shapes that the subjects are made of. I curving fan shape for the hand and tubular shapes for the wrists and fingers. Thinking this way helps my drawing's perspective. I'm constantly cross-referencing spaces, heights and widths to help me get the proportions and relationships right.

B.) When you are satisfied with your drawing, you want to shake off most of the excess charcoal without erasing your drawing by hitting the drawing with a chamois. Don't rub it, just hit it like you're shaking dust off a rug. C.) Your drawing should look this this and is ready to be sprayed with a Krylon workable fixatif. This will help retain the base drawing through your process.
